Nobody can deny that the best way to start a day is with a cup
of rich steaming coffee. It rejuvenates ones senses and really gives you a fine kick to start yet another hectic
day of life. You may say coffee is a necessity, a comfort and luxury all in one. Therefore, it is little wonder why
coffee is after all the second most favorite beverage all over the world (the first being tea).
The word ‘coffee’ has been derived from an Arabic
word, meaning, intoxicating liquor or wine. Coffee has been described as ‘A beverage as black as ink, useful
against numerous illnesses, particularly those of the stomach.’ Though the medical benefits of having coffee have
not yet been proved, coffee has been known to have been successful in controlling symptoms of various diseases,
like cancers, cirrhosis of the liver, diabetes, etc.
The beverage is thought to have been first discovered in the early part of the
ninth century, probably in Ethiopian highlands. Soon it became popular all over Egypt, spread to Europe, and
through it all over the world.
Coffee is obtained form coffee beans (that grows on coffee plants, in the plantations). These are to first picked and then de-fruited. The
de-fruited beans are then dried and sorted out. In some coffee varieties, the coffee may also be aged.
Usually, the coffee is sold roasted and the process of roasting greatly decides
and influences the taste of the coffee finally obtained. However, if the coffee in not sold roasted then it needs
to be roasted at home. Coffee is never consumed without roasting.
These days the concept of coffee gift baskets is gaining wide popularity. Coffee
baskets are nothing but a basket containing various collections of coffee as well as those ingredients that may be
used while preparing and serving coffee. It allows one to select from a wide varies of products, and they can be

After oil, coffee is the most traded commodity. Millions of tons of coffee is
produced all over the world, and are traded among countries. The price of this beverage varies greatly, depending
on the quality of the coffee as well as the production methods involved. Today, Brazil is the world’s largest
exporter of coffee. Brazilian coffees are famous and much adored for it rich and luxurious feel. However, Jamaican
coffee, Ethiopian coffee, Turkish coffee, Irish coffee, Indian filter coffee, etc is also quite popular.
